Between the cost of the Liberty Ride kickoff party at Babylon and his personal expenses, fund-raiser Jeffrey Pendergrass has left the Gay & Lesbian Center $25,000 in debt, jeopardizing the fate of the ride and the future of Liberty House. But Brian persuades a client, Remsen Pharmaceuticals, to become a $100,000 sponsor of a Liberty Ride cyclist - himself. Brian’s oncologist warns him about overextending himself physically, but Brian begins training for the trek from Toronto to Pittsburgh with Ben, Michael, Justin and Ted. When Brian cannot make it through the initial spinning class, the others assume he has come to his senses. Instead, Brian trains secretly at night by himself.
At a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) meeting, Ben and Michael encounter Steve and Amber Leeson, the parents of Hunter’s girlfriend, Callie. Ben and Michael invite the Leesons to dinner. Meanwhile, Hunter and Callie engage in safe sex after Hunter reveals his HIV-positive status. But Callie’s parents are horrified when they read about Hunter’s HIV in Callie’s diary. The Leesons go to Ben and Michael’s apartment, not to have dinner, but rather to put an end to Hunter’s relationship with their daughter. An angry Hunter reveals how he contracted the disease. The following day at school, Callie, unable to accept Hunter’s having had sex with men, rejects him.
When Drew Boyd tells Emmett he wants him back in his life, Emmett insists that their relationship not be restricted to having sex in an out-of-the-way motel room. However, when they dine in a popular eatery, the place is empty because Drew has bought out the restaurant for the evening. Meanwhile, Drew’s fiancée, Sierra, telephones Emmett and asks him to meet her. Emmett expects a confrontation over Drew, but Sierra pleads with Emmett to take over for her injured wedding planner. Emmett turns her down, and he ends his relationship with Drew, after the football star, for financial reasons, refuses to be open about his sexuality.
Meanwhile, the stress in Lindsay and Melanie’s household causes Melanie to have premature contractions. The doctor administers drugs to stop the contractions and orders Melanie to stay in bed for the rest of her pregnancy.
