Justin tends to the injured Shanda Leer, the lip-synching drag performer who was brutally attacked by two thugs after the fund-raiser for Brian. When Shanda, whose real name is Darren Ealy, refuses to identify his attackers and press charges, Justin tries unsuccessfully to persuade him to overcome his fear of reprisal. During a meeting at the Gay and Lesbian Center, various options for increasing safety on Liberty Avenue are bandied about. But one outspoken young gay man, Cody Bell, urges the assemblage to forego useless petitions to the police and politicians and fight back instead. Justin is inspired to join Cody in a vigilante group, the Pink Posse.
With no job prospects, Brian decides to open his own agency, Kinnetik. At Vanguard, he brazenly barges into a pitch meeting for a pharmaceutical company that manufactures an HIV retroviral drug called Endovir. Brian’s edgy advertising campaign, with its starkly realistic portrayals of people coping with the disease, is a hit with a focus group and, consequently, the pharmaceutical company. Brian steals the lucrative account for his new company.
Ted goes back to rehab until his insurance benefits expire. After returning to his apartment, Ted is tempted to use drugs again and calls Blake for help. Blake helps remove all traces of Ted’s former addictions to drugs and pornography from the apartment. At Ted’s request, Blake stays overnight, but he sleeps on the sofa.
Meanwhile, Michael reluctantly accompanies Emmett on an all-gay weekend retreat in the woods to find their inner faeries.
