An oncologist (Marvin Ishmael) believes that Brian has testicular cancer but must remove the left testicle to perform a biopsy for an accurate diagnosis. During surgery, a prosthetic replacement will be implanted. Brian tells no one about his impending medical procedure and concocts a cover story - a trip to Ibiza, Spain, by himself - to explain his upcoming absence. Since Kinnetik has just opened, Brian’s employee Cynthia, who worked with him at Vanguard, is surprised by the sudden vacation, as is Justin, who thought he and Brian would go to Ibiza together.
After Uncle Vic’s funeral, friends and other mourners gather at Debbie’s house to eat. Rodney gives Debbie a shoebox containing some of Vic’s possessions, among them a letter that Vic had written many years ago when he was extremely sick. Expecting to die shortly after completing the missive, Vic had asked Debbie to put on a wonderful final Christmas celebration for him. Now, even though it’s February, Debbie decides to decorate the house, inside and out, and throw a holiday party in accordance with Vic’s wishes of long ago. For Debbie, the plans have to be executed by her, and her alone, perfectly to make the festivities a success, and she becomes quite manic about them, at one point snapping at Michael that she doesn’t need his help.
At the party, drag performer Shanda Leer performs, and everyone seems to be having a good time at the odd, off-season Christmas bash. At the climax of the celebration, Debbie places the traditional angel on the top of the Christmas tree. But the spindly branch of the artificial tree cannot support the large glass ornament, which slips off and shatters on the floor. In anger and frustration, Debbie explodes. She thought that if she gave Vic a perfect party, he would forgive her for her harsh final words. But now, with the broken angel, she’s not so sure.
Uncle Vic is the first HIV-related death that Hunter has experienced. He acts out at school, getting into fights, until he is suspended. A fatalist, he is convinced he will die of AIDS and sees no alternative.
Meanwhile, Blake informs Ted that they should not be intimate while Blake is his drug counselor. Crushed, Ted heads for Babylon, where he gets drugs from someone in his former circle of heavy users. But Ted tracks down Blake before using them. And after a brief conversation, Ted opens the vial, shaking its contents into the air, where the powder blends with flakes of falling snow.
