Lindsay’s desire for an extravagant wedding reception leads to an argument between Lindsay and Melanie, who would rather not spend a lot of money. Lindsay and Melanie sneak into Lindsay’s parents’ house to take the wedding dress that Lindsay’s grandmother, Granny Faye, wanted Lindsay to have and that Lindsay’s mother refuses to give to her daughter. But instead of the dress, Lindsay and Melanie find tender love letters to Granny Faye from a woman named Vera. Realizing how lucky she and Lindsay are to be able to live and love openly, Melanie agrees to a lavish reception for their special day.
Meanwhile, Emmett’s relationship with the much older George grows more serious after an evening at Babylon and a night at the opera. Michael mourns the death of Captain Astro, his hero, after the comics’ publisher kills off the character. Debbie finds the dead body of a young gay man in the Dumpster behind the diner. She berates the homophobic detective who refers to the deceased as a “Jane Doe”, and she chastises Brian, Justin, Ted, Emmett and Michael for their callous indifference to the tragedy. Later, Justin realizes that he and Brian could be victimized by any of the anonymous strangers with whom they have sex.
